I hate to vote against the popular opinion here, but I think you would be setting up your Volvo for some possible damage. Will any of this 1200 miles be uphill? I'd worry about not having a transmission oil cooler, plus the possibility of just generally overheating the engine cooling system. Can your Volvo's brakes stop 3800 lbs or so of extra weight in any sort of reasonable distance? Will your 162hp turbo engine make enough torque to get this whole operation moving from a dead stop? Can the Volvo's springs handle the weight without bottoming out? I don't have a lot of experience with this, but when I bought my Grand Cherokee I looked at a GC with the 4.0L 6-cylinder engine that had been used to tow a couple of snowmobiles. That truck was suffering. Pinion seal into the differential was leaking, tires were shot, rear shocks were blown. And that was a couple of winters worth of occasional towing in an SUV supposedly designed to haul great amounts of stuff, AND with only 40k miles on the engine! I think you'll make it to wherever you're going, but you're taking some risks and may cause some damage to your Volvo. My $0.04 (4 cents because it was long... :-) -John P
